SUMMARY:Global Impact Day
DESCRIPTION:International Themed Potluck after service. \nFollowing our International Potluck Lunch\, we invite you to join us for a special KAIROS Blanket Exercise—an opportunity to come with an open heart and a desire to learn the truth about the history of First Nations\, Inuit\, and Métis peoples that many of us were never taught. Through this powerful\, Indigenous-led experience\, we will journey through key events in Canada’s history and gain a deeper understanding of the ongoing impacts of colonization. Together\, we will listen\, learn\, and reflect on the experiences Indigenous Peoples continue to live with today. Join us as we seek greater understanding and consider the part we can each play in reconciliation. \nEnter with a desire of learning the truth. The truth we were never taught before.\nExit with a new appreciation and understanding of the history of First Nations\, Inuit and later Métis people on these lands now called Canada.\nWe invite you to join us and embark on a journey of understanding the truth Indigenous Peoples still live with today and the part we all play in reconciliation. \nAbout the KAIROS Blanket Exercise\nThe KAIROS Blanket Exercise is a powerful experiential teaching and learning tool designed to deepen understanding of the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous peoples in Canada and the world. The Exercise uses blankets to represent the land. It guides participants through key historical events\, such as pre-contact\, treaty-making\, colonization and resistance. This immersive experience helps participants understand the ongoing impacts of these events on Indigenous Peoples.\nThe KAIROS Blanket Exercise is available virtually as well\, helping to ensure that it reaches remote groups and communities.\nAll KAIROS Blanket Exercises are Indigenous-led\, with partners certified through Indigenous-led Facilitator Training by Instructors who bring years of experience and a wealth of knowledge\, ensuring that each exercise honours Indigenous traditions and perspectives. \nAdrian Jacobs is Ganosono\, Turtle Clan\, Cayuga Nation\, Six Nations Haudenosaunee Confederacy\, Grand River Country in Southern Ontario\, Turtle Island. He is a single father of five and grandfather of four. An artist\, writer\, indigenous advocate\, entrepreneur\, and public speaker he founded an Indigenous church on his home reserve. Previously he was Keeper of the Circle at Sandy-Saulteaux Spiritual Centre\, the national Indigenous ministry training centre of The United Church of Canada.
