He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” – Mark 4:40 (NIV)

Reflect
Jesus spent the day teaching his followers. As evening drew close, he told the disciples to prepare the boat to go across the Sea of Galilee. Jesus lay down and fell asleep. Soon a storm rose up and although the disciples were experienced sailors, they were afraid for their lives. This was not normal. Their hearts beat wildly as they saw the intensity of the storm and water filling the boat.

How could Jesus sleep through this chaos? Did he not care about their lives? In desperation they woke Jesus. He spoke with authority into the wind and the water and calm was restored. Jesus turned to them and asked, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?
The chaos that has gripped our world is not normal. There is fear all around us. Jesus is not asleep. He is near and he cares and loves us. God is not surprised by the COVID-19 virus and YES, he is still in control. Allow him to speak peace into your life and then speak peace into some else’s life and give them hope for the future.

Pray
Jesus, when we find ourselves in the midst of chaos and filled with fear, please help us to remember that you are near. Help us to trust you in the midst of the chaos the world now faces and help us to know that you can speak peace into this chaos. Speak peace into our hearts.
